"the good thief" is Daniel Lutes.
This solo project is a result of the fact that sometimes, Dan is alone and writes songs that don't fit into his other bands repertoires. These songs are composed rather spontaneously (also known as improvising). The songs are played on guitar or piano. Sometimes there are overdubs. So far, it's a lo-fi project along the lines of early Kind of Like Spitting or Firebird.
I think that several years ago, Dan's solo project was going to be called "SOCCER MOM" due to a marketing decision (the coffee mugs were already being mass produced in third world countries) but then a few weeks after that idea, a band popped up in Milwaukee called "the Soccermoms" so Dan gave up on his solo project because it was more of a marketing idea than an actual need to play music.
The solo project was resurrected recently when Dan wrote a song that brought laughter into the world and one day felt a strong identity with the good thief that was crucified alongside Jesus and went to heaven that same day due to his incredible faith. Not that all of Dan's solo project songs will be about God, but you never know.
